There are a number of different kinds of meditation and a number of different religions and spiritual practices incorporate it. So, the ways meditation benefits you are innumerable. Here are just 5 of the ways actually meditating benefits you, your mind, your body, and your spirit.

There Are Several Types of Meditation to Consider Practicing

You can sit and do the empty your mind style of meditation. I generally recommend and follow more of a guided meditation style of meditating. When I lead my life coaching clients in a light meditation to connect to their own internal wisdom, I always invoke protection in the space and the room.

Create Healthy Spiritual Boundaries and Protection in the Space and Within You:

There are those who will think in their minds, “I open myself.” or they might think internally, “I open to Spirit.” Well, there’s a lot of junk out there. It’s like the internet. In the early days we just opened up and went online. We opened just any site and went anywhere. Then we got viruses and got hacked. So we learned we needed to install and use some protection.

So it is with the spiritual. Even the lightest connection which we do in a very quick and light guided meditation. My modality is to invite in protecting winged angels with flaming swords of protection.

You might thing of 4 terrific guard dogs in the 4 corners of your room and home.

5. Personal Benefit of Meditating:

You Raise Your Personal Vibration at Will.

There’s really even a 6th beneficial way where meditation benefits you which leaps to mind.

#6 Way Meditating Benefits You:

Really, this 6th benefit is a two parter. Free:

  1. Practicing meditation is free. Some classes may cost money. Working with some well-know gurus could cost something.
  2. You’re FREE to practice it yourself at home.

Start Personal Meditation Practice Indoors:

In fact, while you’ll often see photos of people practice a cross-legged lotus position version of it outdoors in an open space with hordes of other people around them, I don’t suggest you start there.

Instead, start practicing meditation in an enclosed and beautiful space of some kind. When first getting into meditating, you do want to consciously and specifically set an intention and an invitation and boundary to what sort of guidance and energy to have with you today.

Additionally aim to create a safe space. Protect against physical and sound distractions such as barking dogs cavorting off leash which can be encountered at a park.

Until your placing protection and boundaries become part of you to where you hardly need to utter it out loud anymore, I don’t recommend heading out into totally open spaces.

Venturing Out into Nature to Meditate

Once you get facile with it at my office or in your own home, you may yearn to get outdoors. Ah! The draw of beautiful nature to commune with!

The next step with taking it on the road is to then venture into your own backyard where there is likely a fence. Your backyard fence automatically serves as an energy and intention boundary for you.

Meditating Alone or In a Meditation Group?

Many people do find it helpful, especially when first starting out with any kind of meditation practice, to meditate in a small group. Introverts often don’t vibe immediately with large groups. They often prefer to meditate in a group of 15 people or fewer. Even we extroverts often prefer and are more comfortable starting out with a meditation practice in a group of up to about 30 people.

Whatever your temperament, when first getting into meditating, look for groups small enough where you can briefly chat and connect with the others easily. If the group is larger than 10-15 people, forming slight connections is hindered.

Meditating with Others Fosters a New Community for Meditators

One of the core needs that some of my life coaching clients who are most interested in establishing a meditation practice is to create a small spiritual community. So, you might be feeling that you have these spiritual and creative inklings.

Perhaps you feel lonely on a soul or spiritual level, yes? If that’s you, you’re not alone in feeling this way.

And then, sadly, you feel that your family members and current circle of friends don’t understand. I hear from clients about their feel a bit lonely this way and that they do want to establish some spiritual community of friends. But their interest is not religious.

Then it can depend for the individual. Some are members of different faith communities – Christian… Jewish…. And they yearn to add a more spiritual and connected element to their lives. For others, religion doesn’t resonate for them.

The beauty part is that with meditation, you can adapt it to your religious convictions or simply your personal values.

So, if getting started in meditation is of interest to you, please drop me an email. I do plan on starting a small free group during the summer months at my Newport Beach Life Coaching Orange County office right by Costa Mesa and Irvine.
