Meditation For Relaxation: 60 Meditative Practices to Reduce Stress, Cultivate Calm, and Improve Sleep by Adam O’Neill
Adam O’Neill, CEO of YFM.tv, the Yoga, Fitness, and Mindfullness company. He distills and shares his expertise into this meaty little book from Althea Press. He provides 60 Meditation delivered in different length formats to fit your current need and potential timeframe: 5, 10, 15 and 20 minute possible meditations.
The Style of Meditation he generally offers is what as a Life Coach I label “Empty Your Mind” meditations.
(There are actually all different kinds of Meditation. That is just 1 option). Generally he has you select perhaps 1 thematic thought to start with, and then invites you to continually empty your mind as thought cross your mind during the meditation practice time. I don’t personally love those and also believe we need to put up spiritual/mental safeguards when opening ourselves like this, such as we use Virus and Malware blockers for our internet/wifi usage. There are a few simple “Picture a Peaceful Place” sort of Guided Meditations, as well. He discusses different styles in the beginning of the book.
However, the structure and categories he provides, each Meditation practitioner can easily adapt it to your individual and group needs. If you want to weave in a Faith Community practice, inspirational quote, or selection from Scripture, his format could be easily adapted to accommodate that. Easily done. It would be ideal if he had read mine mind and my preferences, of course, but I still really appreciate solid books like this which provide a terrific foundation and structure which we can then adapt to our needs and growth over time.
By providing such a great structure and format, this then becomes a book good for a beginner and an advanced practitioner. I will be able to share it with my partner for each of us to use individually and for us to share as a couple. I will also be able to turn to repeatedly over time, using it as a reference book, again and again, to meet me wherever I am on my Personal Growth path over time.
Well worth the price of the softcover book.
I highly recommend.
I received a gift copy from the publisher for an honest review.
